What is the Sacrament of First Holy Eucharist?

The Sacrament of First Eucharist (or First Holy Communion) is when a Catholic child receives the Body and Blood of Christ for the first time, fully participating in the heart of the Mass. This sacrament nourishes the soul, strengthens the child’s relationship with Jesus, and unites them more deeply with the Church community. Typically, children prepare through prayer, learning about the Mass, and receiving the Sacrament of Reconciliation so they are spiritually ready to meet Christ in the Eucharist.

What is the Sacrament of Eucharist?

Eucharist
The Eucharist is one of the three Sacraments of Initiation, along with Baptism and Confirmation.  We celebrate the Eucharist whenever we attend Mass, and often people refer to receiving the Eucharist as receiving communion.  The word ‘Eucharist’ means thanksgiving, while the word ‘Communion’ means common union – both are very relevant in our understanding of this sacrament.  When we celebrate Eucharist we come together in common union as one body to offer our thanks to God for all that he has done for us. The Eucharist is more than simply a symbol reminding us of the Last Supper. In the sacrament, the very substance or essence of the bread and wine is changed completely. The Eucharist is the body, blood, soul and divinity of Jesus Christ. This is why we say that the Eucharist is Christ himself, and as such is the is the very source and summit of our lives as Catholics.
